Safeguarding

An adult teaching your child, one to one, online.

The question a careful parent asks before the first class, answered before you have to ask it.

Why this page exists

Insight Bay is one adult teaching children one to one over video. That arrangement deserves a stated policy rather than an assumption of good character, and a parent who asks about it is being a good parent, not a difficult one.

Conduct in class

  • Classes take place over video on a scheduled link. There are no unscheduled contacts.
  • A parent or guardian may join any class, at any time, unannounced. No notice is required and none should be given. This is the single most important line on this page.
  • Communication about a student goes to the parent or guardian. I do not hold private messaging channels with a child, on any platform.
  • Nothing is discussed in class that falls outside teaching, beyond the ordinary conversation that makes a child comfortable enough to say they are lost.

Recording

Where classes are recorded, they are recorded so the student can rewatch an explanation. A recording is never made without the parent knowing it is being made.

To be confirmed by Insight Bay. Where recordings are stored, who can access them, and how long they are kept before deletion. These three facts belong here in specific terms, not in general ones, and I will not invent them.

Background checks

To be confirmed by Insight Bay. Current background check status, the issuing body, and the date. If a check is in progress, that should be stated here as plainly as a completed one would be.

If something concerns you

Raise it with me directly through the contact page and it will be answered the same day, personally. If you would rather not raise it with me, you should contact your local child protection service, and you should not feel you owe me an explanation for doing so.

Data about your child

What is recorded, why, and for how long is set out on the privacy page. The short version: first name, year group, curriculum, topics and progress. Nothing else is needed to teach a child mathematics.
